This short course is designed to gently guide you into BSL through real conversation, practical signs, and a supportive learning environment. You’ll learn in small groups, with experienced tutors who understand how it feels to start from scratch.
What You’ll Learn:
Week 1 – Getting Started
Learn the BSL alphabet, fingerspell your name, and begin simple conversations. You’ll also cover numbers, where you live, and family signs.
Week 2 – Describing People & Everyday Items
Build confidence with colours, clothing, and describing people, while continuing to develop your conversation skills and understanding of time.
Week 3 – Building Sentences
Learn how BSL works with word order and WH questions, and start talking about everyday topics like pets and home life.
Week 4 – Everyday Conversations
Explore weather, seasons, and travel, and begin having more natural, flowing conversations.
Week 5 – Real-Life Communication
Develop your skills further with money, shopping, and talking about past experiences, helping you communicate more confidently.
Week 6 – Confidence & Conversation
Bring everything together through real-life conversations, using time, people, places, and everyday situations.
